Time for Walker to go
I'm sure Scott Walker would make a fine governor. And every voter can rest assured that he – like most breathing citizens of the republic – would do a better job than Jim Doyle.
But it is time for him to hang up his hat and withdraw from the race.
The top priority of any decent Wisconsin resident should be the removal of Mr. Doyle from the State House, and it has become increasingly apparent over the past several weeks that while Mark Green has an excellent chance of restoring order to the ailing state, Mr. Walker can at best mount a “campaign of ideas” destined for also-ran status.
A Zogby/Wall Street Journal poll just released shows Mr. Green in a statistical dead heat with Mr. Doyle, while Mr. Walker would enter the race in trailing status. The Green campaign has, of course, jumped on this news with a gloating press release:
“These results continue to reflect the fact that Jim Doyle doesn’t share our Wisconsin values or our priorities. His administration is under investigation for trading state contracts for campaign contributions and he’s increased an already outrageous tax burden on Wisconsin families,” said Green campaign manager Mark Graul. “Jim Doyle has earned these miserable poll numbers and Wisconsinites are turning to Mark Green to clean up the mess in Madison and put our state back on the right track.”
...
Among Republican primary voters, Strategic Vision’s survey showed Green with a 7% advantage over Walker, 47% to 40%.
The problem with Mr. Walker staying in this campaign is his destructive attitude of selfish campaigning. He apparently feels that if he can't be governor, no Republican should be. And so his continued presence is not merely a distraction but, indeed, creates a second opponent for Mr. Green. This is self-destruction from within the party at its finest.
And it must stop.

People like you make me sick. The we support a candidate simply becouse of money and polling. People who oppose choice claiming that opposition weakens their candidate.
With the Mark Green team they have a very hard time saying that the candidate is the best choice especially if you elliminate the cliams of we take and can get more bribes (I'm sorry - campaign contrabutions).
Compare Green and Walker who's record shows that they are better able to tackle issues like spending, taxes, ethics and campign reform, WEAC ...? I find myself having to choose Walker on every issue.
Green has more money, slightly better polling that's it. But his supporters are running those two issues alone as the resones that Walker should drop out.
So why don't all you who can't win in a debate on the issues quite your crying that Walker should drop out and stop hurting your fragile little candidate.
John Q Cheesehead - You're just a bit too defensive I think. This blogger is not pointing out an idea that hasn't been openly discussed before - even in the media. You say Mark Green has slightly better polling -which is wierd huh? I mean isn't the Milwaukee candidate supposed to be better known? Let's just wait for the debate between the candidates shall we? I think it will be quite clear who really knows the issues versus the one that just spews rhetoric.
Mac- You made some good points. While the Walker Team seems to "own" the WI conservative blogs (isn't one a paid consultant?) the Green organization seems to have a much better ground game. Does the average Wisconsinite even know what a blog is? It's going to be an interesting next few months for the primary race. Keep sharing your comments, you are a skilled writer!

I am defensive. I am defensive of anyone who says a individual should not run for elected offices. Especially when they can't back it up with support that the individual in incompetent or corrupt. I am not calling for Green to drop out. I have strong disagreement with and disgust for two of those running for the seat Green is vacating yet I defend their right to run. I truely believe that the more choices available, the more vioces available, the more debate that takes place the better it is for democracy as a whole.
In response to the second anonymous post:
"the Green organization seems to have a much better ground game" This is one of the usual reasons I hear for why Republicans should favor Green over Walker. Not he has a better view on personal liberty, taxes or anything else. How can it in one breath be said wait for some actual debate, at the same time praising the person calls for one to drop out not on a position after comparing debated issues, but in response to polling? How can one value debates and at the same time praise the idea of just following polls? How can we ever have debate if some lone blogger is able to just ax candidates who don't poll to his expectations?
